Washington Post Express: Freudian Slip or Just a Typo? (4)

I will admit that I am not a regular reader of The Washington Post Express. In fact, I am not a regular reader of anything. This morning I just happened to pick up an abandoned issue at Starbucks while waiting for my son to finish is hot cocoa and chocolate donut when I started to read the article 9/11 Defendants Ask to Plead Guilty. The headline caught my eye and piqued my curiosity as to why the defendants would suddenly want to confess all of these years.

The article says that the defendants decided to confess after they found out that Barack Obama had won the election and they want to “rush toward convictions before inauguration” because they know that Obama has vowed to close Guantanamo Bay and they want to be executed in order to seek martyrdom.

The article was all good until the last paragraph. If I were the reporter, Andrew O. Selsky, I would be somewhat upset because some how or another the “O” was dropped in front of Obama’s name. You know what that spells, bama. The line reads, “Even if the trial were held, it is all but certain none would begin before bama takes office on Jan. 20.”

Upon reading it, my jaw dropped in disbelief because I could not believe that the Post would be so careless in proofreading. I was completely blown away. I thought that maybe it was the reporters error, but, the same article ran on Yahoo! News as Confessions throw Gitmo 9/11 trials into confusion. No “bama” in sight.

Let this be a lesson to all reporters. Don’t forget the “O.”
